What is Rink/Roller Hockey?

Roller Hockey is a Team Game played by all genders and of all ages.

The game is very Fast, Skillful, challenging and Exciting!

What age ranges play?

Here at Maidstone, we have had Teams in U9s U11s, U13s, U15s, U17s, U20s, SC2 and SC1.

Age groups can have more than one team representing the club and there are also development games for new players. 

There are also Premier League Teams. 

How many players in each Team?

A Team consists of  a maximum of Ten Players,  Eight are Field Players and Two are Goalkeepers. However the minimum numbers are 4 field and 1 Goalie.

When the game is in play there are a maximum of 5 players on the rink. Normally 4 field players and a Goalie. Players and Goalies can be substituted out at any time.

What Kit do I need to play the game?

Field Players - 

Each player requires a Hockey Stick, Protective Gloves, Kneepads, Shin Pads and a Protective Box along with Roller Skates. Gum sheilds are also a recommended option. Also helmets are avalable but not required.

Goalkeepers - 

Due to the nature of the job goalies are protected by more kit, They require a Helmet, Chest Pad, Gloves, Kneepads, Shin Pads and a Protective Box. Protective shorts are also an option.

Can I use any Skates?

No, Quad Skates are required,  in-lines skates are not a option.

Is there a minimum start age?

We normally suggest 5/6 years is the minimum age, at this age the main concern is Skating Ability, once the skateing reaches a minimum standard we can move on to Hockey area! Each new player is assed at one of our training sessions and coached in the best way going forward. 

I'd like to come and try roller Hockey, what do I need?

Shorts and a T-Shirt are the best idea, we can lend you Skates, Shin-Pads, Knee-Pads, Stick and Gloves. Should you continue we recommend you purchase your own as funds become available. The first 3 sessions are FREE. If you continue on then you will need to sign up to continue the fun.
